Our Mission

The Androscoggin Children's Advocacy Center's mission is to promote the healing of victims of child abuse by providing a strong community response to investigation, treatment and prevention of child abuse.  This is accomplished by:

bullet

providing a safe, child-friendly environment for child abuse investigations and treatment;

bullet

supporting a multi-disciplinary process to working with child abuse victims; and

bullet

working with the community to develop and enhance services to child abuse victims and prevention programs.

 History

In early 2005 the Sexual Assault Crisis Center (SACC) opened Maine's first CAC.  The Androscoggin Children's Advocacy Center (ACAC) is the result of four years of research, preparation, and support by a multi-disciplinary group representing the courts, law enforcement, child protection, victim advocacy, social services, medical providers, and mental health services.

In September 2007, the ACAC became an associate member of the National Children's Alliance (NCA).  The NCA, along with the Northeast Regional Children's Advocacy Center (NRCAC), sponsor many trainings and conferences for professional development.

 Funding

The ACAC has relied on the financial support of many agencies, including the United Way, Androscoggin Bank, The National Children's Alliance, Northeast Regional Children's Advocacy Center, JTG Foundation, the New England Technology Foundation, as well as the support of many individual donations.

We also receive tremendous community support for our annual Chair-ity Auction. This year our auction will be an on-line event!
